9 and 3/4 inches of sadness

So last night Ani and I are watching TV, watching my favorite show Hardball with Chris Matthews. Chris' guest included Joe Trippi, the former campaign manager for Howard Dean, and SNL's Darrell Hammond who does an impersonation of Chris. Darrell seemed very uncomfortable being their and Chris just couldn't stop laughing and talking about himself. As for Trippi, I'm not really sure if he quit, was fired or what, but he was very positive and still very supportive of Governor Dean's fight towards the White House.

So Ani is falling asleep, and I'm just flipping through the guide, when I notice that Porn Star the Legend of Ron Jeremy was going to start soon. Ani as the movie was begining, think I was watching porn, I explain its a documentary about a porn legend. She was tired so she went to bed.

You may not know the name Ron Jeremy, but if you have watched any amount of porn from the 1970s or 1980s, you ahve seen his "work". Ron is the short, fat hairy porn actor who has garnered the nickname "the hedgehog" for obvious reasons. He has been in over 1700 adult films, and is probably the best known male porn actor in the history of the genre. Currently he is on the Surreal Life on the WB with Erick Estrada, Tammy Faye Baker and Vanilla Ice.

Porn Star, which showed pictures, home movies and of course clips of Ron's acting career was really beautifully done. It showed a softer side of Ron. Unlike other adult entertainers, he doesn't drink or do drugs, he just wants to be legitimate and have a family. I thought parts of the movie were very sad when he spoke about only having three real girlfriends in his life. And only one since becoming a porn actor.

"Imagine me -- needing someone. Back on Earth there was nobody. Women, yes. Lots of them. Love making without love." - Charlton Heston in Planet of the Apes (1967)

There was lots of humor, as you could imagine if you've seen him on the Surreal Life. He is funny, quick, sarcastic and really smart. I think he has really accepted who he is, and he has a good sense of humor about it.

They showed him with his dad in Flushing. His friends in the porn industry, spoke nicely about him. It was very sweet. I hope one day that Ronnie Hyatt from Flushing New York, gets his dream and becomes a full time mainstream actor.
