mermaid parade 2005

Yesterday, to kick off summer and to spend a fun day together before Ani goes to LA, we went to Coney Island for the annual mermaid parade. We had never been there for the parade and the scene was wild.

Admittedly the last time we were on Coney Island we were there to jump into the ocean on New Years day. But the place was packed; we were parked so far away it was ridiculous. Giving ourselves plenty of time, we went to Nathan’s to have a hot dog and lemonade. And found our selves a piece of land near the barricade. While we waited we saw all of these people in wacky costumes walking around. Most of who were in the parade.

There were classic cars, mermaids of all sizes from “little mermaids” to more “adult mermaids, burlesque performers, pirates, punk bands, the gurls of the Gotham Girls Roller Derby and of curse some Polar Bears-including Holly’s bro Jay (thanks for the beads).

Despite being in the mid nineties, the breeze off the ocean made it real comfortable. After the parade was done, we headed back to the car and went home. Cleaned up and fell prey t advertising as we went out to Ruby Tuesday’s for their new crab cake burger. MMM MMM good.

As you guys may or may not know, our digital camera is on the fritz so we are shooting in film and I’ll post the pictures as soon as I get them back.
