I was in the shower this morning and was wondering what precautions my kids school has in place to prevent a mass shooting. Good morning to me.

I know they don't allow parents into the school at arrival. And the volunteer door monitors (me included) are instructed not to open the door for people with no business in the school. But I don't know what the plan is if a gun man gets past the three older ladies who sit by the entrance. I think its our responsibility as parents to know what the plan is or at the very least know that there is a plan in place.

What I do know is that the solution probably isn't arming kindergarten teachers.

Now here is where I talk about gun control. I don't see why we can't just have people register their guns. We have to register our cars that isn't stopping anyones liberty. Why cant we have background checks, required safety training and drug testing for people who want a gun? If you have nothing to hide there isn't anything you need to worry about.

Some will argue that so much gun violence is due to people with illegal guns. How did criminals get these guns? Private sales, gun shows, theft of improperly secured "legal" weapons. So if there were less guns floating around there would be a lot less guns getting into the hands of criminals.

It's put up or shut up time. My right to not being shot by someone with a gun or worrying that someone will shoot up my kids school supersedes any antiquated "right" to be armed to the gills without any regulation.

The vast majority of gun owners are responsible. And probably would not be against registration and background checks. But there are irresponsible ones who are dragging down everyone.
