The third year of the 2016 presidential election cycle is finally upon us. Until election day, I will post the official statements and quotes on different issues that may concern parents from the current candidates.
North Carolina passed a new bill into law that would make sexual orientation, not a protected class as far as discrimination goes. Basically, it is legal to discriminate against anyone who is LGBTQ in the state of North Carolina. Additionally, it forces transgender people to use the public restrooms based on the gender on their birth certificates. Many companies have stopped expansion plans in North Carolina, national touring acts have cancelled their concerts/performances in the state and NBA is keeping moving its 2017 All-Star game out of Charlotte.
Here is what they have to say about it.
“It’s time to end discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. This law has no place in America.” Bernie Sanders
“LGBT people should be protected from discrimination under the law — period.” Hilary Clinton
Laws requiring people to use the restroom that corresponds to the sex on their birth certificate makes sense because "men should not be going to the bathroom with little girls," - Ted Cruz
Would “probably not” have signed a controversial North Carolina law that blocks transgender individuals from using public bathrooms that match their gender identity and stops cities from passing anti-discrimination ordinances to protect gay and transgender people. – John Kasich
He also said people who disagree on the issue should just “get over it.”
They should “use the bathroom they feel is appropriate.” -Donald Trump
